ART OF NEGOTIATION

1. DANIEL 1 : 8.

Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile
himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies; But
he didn’t rebel or became silent about his conviction,
rather requested the authority regarding that.
Remember, Daniel was just a slave but, by the grace
of GOD, he didn’t consider the appointed chief as an
enemy! He humbly requested the chief.
The art of negotiation!

2. DANIEL 1 : 10 – 13.
When the chief expressed his inability to accept Daniel’s
request, Daniel didn’t give up. He didn’t change his stand
but asked the concerned person to test him for ten days.
The art of negotiation!

3. DANIEL 2 : 13 – 16.
Nebuchadnezzar’s command to kill all the wise men because
of their failure to tell and interpret his dream brought death
to Daniel’s doorsteps. Even in that confusing and threatening
situation, Daniel didn’t give up; Rather he found out the
reason for king’s anger and asked the king to give him time.
Negotiating to buy time in an almost impossible situation!
The art of negotiation!

4. DANIEL 2 : 49.
When Nebuchadnezzar promoted Daniel, he petitioned for
his prayer partners and got better positions for them in that
kingdom. Daniel didn’t act on his own because of his new
position or hesitated to request the king for his friends.
But he petitioned in a convincing way!

The art of negotiation!
If we, the people of Truth, use our words in a wise way in our
daily walk, we can make our life more peaceful.
GOD gave grace and wisdom to Daniel to handle his words
in a convincing way and hence whatever might be his personal
position, he was able to move forward.

Crisis or promotion, Daniel knew how to turn things in his favor.
Of course, not by dirty manipulation, but by the grace of GOD!

Dear friend,
Some times we try silence and some other times we try angry
outburst and confrontation to express our convictions; But by
the grace of GOD we should learn when to be silent and when
to engage in healthy confrontation; Most of the times, neither
silence nor confrontation will bring the required outcome!
Rather, negotiating in a proper way by trusting GOD will bring
surprise results!

May GOD give us all the wisdom and grace to use our words
in a healthy and prosperous way!

COUNSEL IN THE HEART OF MAN IS LIKE DEEP
WATER, BUT A MAN OF UNDERSTANDING WILL
DRAW IT OUT. ( PROVERBS 20 : 5 ).

EXTRANEOUS EXPOSURE

2 CHRONICLES 35 : 20 – 24

The sad end of King Josiah!
The king
who was instrumental in the spiritual revival of Judah,
who began to seek the LORD when he was just sixteen,
who destroyed all the pagan shrines when he was twenty, and
who purified the land and the temple when he was twenty six,
died when he was just thirty nine!

Reason?
Extraneous exposure!
Unnecessary interfering in another man’s battle!

King Nero of Egypt was on his way to battle against his enemies,
but Josiah decided to fight against king Nero unnecessarily.
Even the King Nero’s patient explanation didn’t have any impact
on Josiah. He went ahead, embraced his own death!

See all his spiritual works!
His desire to purify the temple, his respect for the WORD of GOD,
his pledge to obey the LORD, the way he celebrated passover
and his tireless efforts in the restoration of the temple!
He was an excellent example in the list of kings of Judah!

But the strategic truth is even his spiritual standards were not able
to protect him from the consequence of his stubborn foolishness!

Dear friend,
An important strategy of the enemy is to sidetrack a sincere
believer to get entangled in another man’s battle. Whenever
a servant of GOD is having a steady growth, the possibility of
getting tempted to interfere in matters outside his boundary will
also come.

Expecting supernatural protection, because of your spiritual
achievements, in the areas outside GOD defined boundary is
highly dangerous!

Remember, even our LORD JESUS CHRIST declined to obey
the enemy when he misquoted the WORD about angelic
protection!( LUKE 4 : 9 – 12 ).

Discern the difference between acts of faith and adventures of presumption!

A PERSON WHO STRAYS FROM HOME IS LIKE A BIRD
THAT STRAYS FROM ITS NEST ( PROVERBS 27 : 8 ).

WISE MEN

MATTHEW 2 : 11

Wise men!
They were the first, well ahead of others, to seek the LORD;
They were the first, well ahead of others, to worship the LORD;
They were the first, well ahead of others, to give to the LORD!

No one asked them to seek, to worship and to give!
Voluntarily, but well ahead of others, they excelled!

Trying to prove that you are a wise man by your six digit salary?
Wish to impress others of your wisdom with the alphabetical
soup of academic degrees behind your name?
Does your place of employment give you pride and prestige
about your uniqueness and wisdom?

Remember, the foolishness of GOD is wiser than men!

But Biblically speaking, wise men are the ones who seek,
worship and give voluntarily and well ahead of others!

Dear friend,
How you seek the LORD, how you worship the LORD and how
you give to the LORD, well ahead of others and voluntarily, will
be the yardsticks to check whether you are really wise or not!

Don’t believe the label given by this world;
Seek HIM; Worship HIM; And bring offerings to HIM!

Because CHRIST JESUS became for us wisdom from GOD!

THOSE WHO ARE WISE SHALL SHINE LIKE THE
BRIGHTNESS OF THE FIRMAMENT( DANIEL 12 : 3 )

SHORTCUT STUMBLING

ESTHER 2 : 19 & 20

Have you noticed?

Even though Esther was the queen and was still following
Mordecai’s orders, Mordecai didn’t bring in his relationship
with Esther to eliminate or dominate Haman for a long time?

Haman was steadily growing and Mordecai was carefully
observing Haman’s growth and readily expressing his stand
against him; But, Mordecai never complained against Haman
to Esther. He could have used his influence to manipulate
the situation but waited for the right time.

Think about the possibilities.
A complaint through Esther might have eliminated Haman or
the unpredictable king could have removed Esther from the
throne because of his closeness to Haman; Did not the King removed Vashti by the counsel of someone like Haman?

Mordecai waited patiently for the right time and opportunity!

Like Mordecai, Esther also didn’t jump into some kind of
firefighting action immediately after receiving the news from Mordecai, but waited in the presence of the Lord fasted for
three days before staring her game!

See the result!
An untimely attempt by Mordecai and Esther might have
eliminated only Haman, but the sharp move eliminated not
just Haman but all the enemies of Jews in the entire kingdom
and paved the way for a peaceful and prosperous life to all
the Jews!

One man’s meticulous patience gave deliverance to so many!

Dear friend!
Learn the difference between using the opportunity in a
GODLY way and using it at any cost!
If the enemy is advancing, zeal and sincerity may not be
sufficient to thwart his plan; Waiting for the instruction from
above is crucial in this kind of crisis;
Don’t trust your influence and intelligence but wait for the
insight from the WORD, the Instructor’s manual of EMMANUEL!

Don’t just focus on the growing darkness but on the
Gentle Voice of the LIGHT also!
You are allowed to see the darkness so that your timely
action will bring light to many!
Be Courageous!

Behind your unanswered prayers, prolonged frustrations,
closed doors and valley of shadows of death, your Mordecai,
the GOD ALMIGHTY, is also meticulously planning and
patiently moving to bring joy and deliverance to you and
through you!

Behind the maze is the MASTER!
HIS plans are always to prosper you!
Believe it and praise HIM!

You shall see wonders!

IN YOUR STRENGTH I CAN CRUSH AN ARMY,
WITH MY GOD I CAN SCALE ANY WALL.
( II SAMUEL 22 : 30 )

SAME SIDE GOAL

I KINGS 13 : 11 – 33

An old prophet living in Bethel;
Not just living, but comfortably settled!
Own house, own vehicle, obedient children, even his own grave!

But Bethel was under the control of Jeroboam and he slowly tried
to introduce an alternate religion at Bethel against the living GOD!
Why the old prophet didn’t confront Jeroboam?
Why there was no Word to and through him from the LORD?
Whether comfort corrupted his conviction?

GOD sent another prophet from Judah to warn Jeroboam!
There was a remarkable change in the attitude of Jeroboam after
the confrontation by that prophet but that change was short lived.
Reason?
Possibly because of the same side goal of the old prophet!

The king was not able to convince the young prophet from Judah
to eat or to take rest at Bethel; That young prophet obeyed GOD’s
instruction very carefully, but the old prophet’s deliberate lies brought the younger prophet again to Bethel to eat!

Why did the older prophet tell lies to bring him back?
Instead of rejoicing in the exhibition of GOD’s power against the ungodly king and his first steps towards repentance, this old prophet
deliberately followed the younger prophet and brought him back!

Was he trying to show to the world that he was close to to the successful and powerful prophet?
Was he trying to cover-up his failure as a prophet?
His hospitality, his willingness to give his donkey, his lamentation after the death of the younger prophet, his attitude of even giving
his own grave to bury the younger prophet and his desire to be
buried next to the younger prophet are all looking like some kind of
genuine acts of love!

Was it so?
What was his objective?
Was not his lie the reason for the death of the younger prophet?
Whether the death of the prophet made Jeroboam to ignore the
warnings given by him and made him more ungodly?
Was not the older prophet’s interference in the path of the other
prophet made a successful ministry a failure?
Which side the older prophet belonged to?

Dear friend,
Honor the ‘elder’ brother, but be sharp enough to discern any lie
coming from them to entrap you in to disobedience!
All the pious, soft spoken, ‘GOD told me’ quotes may not be actually from GOD!
Your regular appointment and relationship with GOD only will give you the wisdom to escape from these kind of so called ” GODLY counsels’ from the ungodly ‘elders’!

LOOK, I AM SENDING YOU OUT AS SHEEP AMONG
WOLVES. BE AS WARY AS SNAKES AND HARMLESS
AS DOVES. ( MATTHEW 10 : 16 )

RISKY RESPONSIBILITY

GENESIS 27 : 1 & 2

Isaac was old and almost blind and he decided to bless his
firstborn, Esau!
But, he failed to acknowledge GOD given prophecy ‘ the older son will serve the younger one’!
Further, it is a known fact that how Esau ignored his birthright for
the sake of some red stew!

Isaac somehow tried to do some favor to his first son and decided
to bless him; As a father he had the responsibility of blessing
both his sons and not just one!
Somehow favoritism entered his mind!
But see the consequence!
Rebekah’s manipulation, Jacob’s drama, Esau’s anger and plan to kill Jacob, Jacob’s escape to Paddan-aram and the twenty years of
suffering and slavery of Jacob in Laban’s place were all happening
just without any control!

Just one decision!
How it fractured Isaac’s family!
In fact Isaac started this confusion by expecting his death but the irony was that he didn’t die in a year or two but lived for 180 years and witnessed Jacob’s return to his place!
Unnecessary assumption! Unnecessary decisions!
Unnecessary consequences and heartbreaks!
Just one decision!

Dear friend,
Don’t underestimate the power of your choices and decisions
when you are in a responsible position, either in the family or
work place or ministry!
Just one decision can turn some Jacob’s life upside down!

Whether it is a minor matter or a major strategy, ask GOD’s
wisdom and don’t trust your own mind!

TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND LEAN
NOT ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING. SEEK HIS WILL IN
ALL YOU DO AND HE WILL DIRECT YOUR PATHS.
( PROVERBS 3 : 4 & 5 )

DOUBLE AGENT

1. GENESIS 15 : 4, 5 & 6.

Abraham and Sarah had no children; The word of the
LORD came to Abraham ‘ the one who will come from
your own body shall be your heir’.
Against all the odds, Abraham believed and the LORD
accounted it to him for righteousness.
But, the fulfillment of the promise didn’t happen and
the patience and faith of Abraham got tested;
Hard times; doubting the promise;
Right time for the enemy to give subtle suggestion:
Yes, the subtle suggestion to marry Hagar came through
Sarah, a person who was supposed to encourage Abraham,
and Abraham failed to take a stand!

The subtle suggestion came not from an enemy, but from
the life partner of Abraham!
At least for few days, Sarah became a double agent;
One side accompanied the father of faith and another
side disturbing his faith; Abraham failed!

2. JOB 2 : 4 – 9
Satan challenged GOD;
The challenge? Somehow forcing JOB to curse GOD!
But, the enemy miserably failed in his attempt!
Deaths, losses, calamities and finally cruel sickness;
But JOB did not sin with his lips!
The next option of the enemy?
Yes, a double agent!
Now, JOB’s wife gives the subtle suggestion to the
poor JOB ” curse GOD and die “.
Notice, this is her only recorded speech in the book.
Further, she didn’t just asked Job to die but to curse
GOD and die.
Why ‘curse GOD’?
Remember, the enemy’s challenge; Job to curse GOD!
She echoes the enemy’s challenge in her suggestion;
At least for few minutes, she became a double agent;
One side, went through all the sufferings and losses
and on the other side suggesting Job to curse GOD!
But Job didn’t fail. He didn’t sin!.

3. MATTHEW 16 : 21 – 23

The enemy tried his best to eliminate JESUS immediately
after his birth; Mission failed!
In the wilderness, after JESUS’ forty days fasting, the
enemy schemed and manipulated to keep JESUS away
from HIS calling; Mission failed!
The enemy’s next option?
A double agent!
This time the suggestion came from JESUS’ inner circle;
The number one Apostle Peter, not simply suggested,
rebuked JESUS and indirectly tried to stop JESUS from
going to the cross!
At least for few seconds, Peter became a double agent;
One side, exhibiting the gift of revelation and on the other
side, rebuking the way of the cross!
But, JESUS didn’t fail. In fact Peter received the hard rebuke!

Leaders, Beware!
See all the double agents!
They all were so close to their leaders and so sincere but
when the leaders were having an overcoming life, they
all, in a mysterious way, became a tool in the enemy’s hand!
And in all the cases, the target is the leader’s life mission!

Love believes all things ( I Corinthian 13: 7 ), but you
are also exhorted to ‘ test all things and hold fast what
is good ( I Thessalonians 5 : 21 ) .
May GOD give you the wisdom to identify the double agents!

WISDOM CALLS ALOUD OUTSIDE.
SHE RAISES HER VOICE IN THE
OPEN SQUARES.(PROVERBS 1 : 20 )

GOLDEN APPLES

2 KINGS 5 : 2 & 3.

Naaman suffered from leprosy; His valor, name, fame
and victories lost their meanings because of the flesh
eating disease!
No way of escape! No hope of healing! No deliverance!

But that hopeless commander got the hope and then
the healing by a simple but strong suggestion given by
a young servant girl!

Think about the young girl!

Away from her home! Away from her motherland!
Brought to Naaman’s house as a captive; A servant!
But able to grasp the problem of her owner, able to
think about a possible solution and then having the
courage and compassion to share her view in a place
where she had every chance to complain and murmur!

But that right words at the right time changed not just
the outer man but also the inner man of Naaman!

2 KINGS 5 :13 & 14.

Naaman was so close to the healing; but his ego and
his lack of knowledge about GOD’s way of deliverance
almost hindered his deliverance. In his rage, he decided
to go back to his land without the healing.

But that angry commander got the healing by a simple
but strong suggestion given by some of his subordinates!

Think about the subordinates!

It is usual for any subordinate to say ‘yes’ to the remarks
of the chief!. In particular, when the chief feels that his
personal and national pride got damaged, it is almost
impossible to give any suggestion to the angry chief.

But that right words at the right time changed not just
the outer man but also the inner man of Naaman!

One more important thing happened as a consequence;
Think about the possible consequences if Naaman went
back to his land unhealed! His anger and wounded ego!;
Think about the future of that young girl in that case!

Yes, GOD protected that young girl in a foreign land by
the simple, last minute suggestion of the subordinates!

Oh, GOD’s silent ways of protecting HIS own!

Dear friend,
Everyday ask GOD’s wisdom to have the right word at
the right time!
Who knows how much your words are needed for the
broken warriors like Naaman!
Who knows how effective your words are in protecting
and blessing a young girl in some other remote part of
the world!
Speak with GOD given wisdom!

TIMELY ADVICE IS AS LOVELY AS GOLDEN APPLES
IN A SILVER BASKET. ( PROVERBS 25 : 11 )

NOAH’S ALTAR

GENESIS 7 : 2 & GENESIS 8 : 16 – 22.

NOAH; A man who found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

When Noah finished the ark building, GOD gave him
a clear instruction to take with him seven pairs of
each clean animals, one pair of each unclean animal
and seven pairs of each birds to keep the species
alive on the face of all the earth.

To keep the species alive, if one pair of each unclean
animals are sufficient, why seven pair each of the clean
animals in the ark?
In case of birds, why seven pair each, clean or unclean?
Why extra ‘luggage’ in the ark?

GOD never explained; Simply said;
Noah never asked; Simply obeyed;

When the earth was dried, again GOD gave him clear
instruction to bring out every living thing out of the
ark; No numbers mentioned; Nearly after one year of
stay inside the ark, surely the numbers underwent
changes just by natural reproduction!

When all the living things came out of the ark,
Noah again started building, not an ark but an altar!

Check the Scripture carefully;
GOD did not mention any thing about the offerings!
But, Noah voluntarily offered the burnt offerings!

Not in a casual manner, but very carefully;
Only the clean animals and clean birds!

Think about the possible excuses!
The earth is so vast and the number of animals
and birds is so less and hence the life of every animal
and bird is so important to keep the species alive;
Why take risk by offering some?

May be after some time, the numbers will increase;
Is it not better to offer then than now?

When GOD is not specifically asking, why ‘waste’ the
scarce resources?

But, Noah offered the burnt offerings;
And GOD smelled the soothing aroma!

The Result: The Noahic Covenant (GENESIS 8 : 21&22).

Dear friend,
When was the last time you obeyed, like Noah, even if
the instructions were not clearly explained?
When was the last time you voluntarily offered your
scarce resources as a soothing aroma to GOD?

Some final questions?
The concepts of burnt offering, clean and unclean
animals and birds were explained only during Moses’
time. But how Noah grasped these things?

Is it true that any one who found grace in the sight of
the LORD and who is willing to obey GOD unreservedly
will be having an extra dose of wisdom to perceive things
much in advance?
I don’t know, but we all found grace in the sight of the
LORD because of the finished work of CHRIST;
If in addition, if we obey GOD sincerely,
Who knows, what kind of insights we all can have?

OF THE ALTAR. (PSALM 118 : 27 )

ABSURD ADVENTURES

 II CHRONICLES 35 : 20 – 24

King Josiah died in a battle. Is it not natural?
A king dying in a battle is not unusual.
But, this battle is little different;
First of all, it is not his battle at all;
King Neco of Egypt clearly warned him not to interfere in his
battle plan; But, King Josiah refused to listen!
Why Josiah was so stubborn?
Was it arrogance or spiritual pride?
Was it due to his thirty eight years of administrative experience?
Or just adventure?
Unnecessary battle resulting in unnecessary loss!

See the previous chapters ( II CHRONICLES 33 & 34 )
A man who became a king at the age of eight,
A man who followed the example of David,
A man who removed all detestable idols from Israel,
A man who required everyone to worship the LORD,
A man who humbled himself after hearing the WORD,
A man who repaired and restored the temple with zeal,
A man who organized the best possible Pass over,
A man who honored the priests and prophets,
A man who is not having any recorded flaw in the Scriptures,
Lost his life unnecessarily, had a fool’s death!

Dear friend, mind your own business;
Stay away from unnecessary battles;
Avoid absurd adventures at any cost;
Why waste your time, money, energy and
even your life in an arrogant manner?
Know your boundary; respect it;

Grow and glow in your land;

You are needed there!
Just for a minute of applause,
Just for a second of feeling ‘high’,
Just to satisfy your stinky ego,
Never ever enter forbidden boundaries!
