ACCEPTING THE ACCEPTANCE

2 SAMUEL 9

Mephiboseth!
Son of Jonathan; grandson of King Saul.
Lame in his feet; depending on his servant Ziba.
Living somewhere outside Jerusalem (verse 4)
Frustrated so much about his life that he considered
himself a dead dog! (verse 8)

But he didn’t know about one thing, the covenant;
The covenant between David and Jonathan, his father!
(1 Samuel 20 : 12 – 17)

After many years, the invitation came to Mephisobeth!
A favor shown to him because of the covenant!
What was the favor?
One time gift? Monthly allowance? temporary permit?
No! He was given the privilege of eating bread at the
table of King David! (verse 7)
Not for one or two days but always! (verse 10)
Not like a guest but like one of the King’s sons! (verse 11).

Think about this!
A privilege given to a person who considered himself a
dead dog; a person not having the right or might, even to
enter the KIng’s palace, got the opportunity of being in the
presence of the king and eating at the king’s table at least
three times a day throughout his life!
No strings attached!. No ifs and buts!
Pure favor! Power of the covenant!

Mephiboseth accepted the favor and immediately changed
his residence from some remote village to the city of King
David, Jerusalem, so that he could utilize the favor! (verse 13).

There is another covenant, covenant of blood, made two
thousand years ago at Calvary!
This covenant gave us the right to enter the KING’s presence
and eat at HIS table!
Not like a servant but as the children of the KING OF KINGS!
Not for one or two days but always!
Favor shown to a person who was dead in his sins!
Grace even to the dead dogs like us!

David’s presence was not assured at his table always,
but Our LORD’s presence is assured at HIS table always!

You are accepted in the beloved, not because of your merit,
because of the covenant of blood made by our KING,LORD
and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST!

Have we accepted that acceptance properly?
Have we made the necessary changes in our life and lifestyle
so that we can enjoy the given privilege to enter HIS presence?
Have we thanked HIM enough for the grace bestowed upon us?

Remember, Mephiboseth came and dwelt in Jerusalem so
that to receive and honor the favor of king!

What about us?

HE PREPARES A TABLE BEFORE ME IN THE
PRESENCE OF MY ENEMIES; …… ….. …….
AND I WILL DWELL IN THE HOUSE OF THE
LORD FOREVER. ( PSALM 23 : 5 & 6 )

BETTER HALF; BITTER HALF

1. GENESIS 6 : 18

Before destruction, GOD instructed Noah to bring Noah’s
better half, Noah’s three sons and their better halves in to
the ark;
We don’t know how he taught them and convinced them,
but they all obeyed and went in to the ark. Got saved!

For Noah and his sons, the better halves remained better halves!

2. GENESIS 19 : 12 – 26
Before destruction, GOD instructed Lot to take Lot’s better half,
Lot’s two daughters and their better halves out of that place;
We know how his son- in-laws mocked him and how his wife
looked back. Lot lost half of his family!

For Lot and his daughters, the better halves became bitter halves!

Noah and Lot received almost similar instructions but Lot’s
influence was not so strong as that of Noah!
Is it a wonder? The spiritual influence will always be proportional
to the scriptural commitment!

Got saved? Praise the LORD!.
But remember, your first assignment is winning your family!

Humble yourself; pray; plan; sacrifice; endure;fight and protect!
And above all, check your commitment!
Yes, make winning your family your topmost priority!

DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THEM. REMEMBER
THE LORD, GREAT AND AWESOME, AND
FIGHT FOR YOUR BRETHREN, YOUR SONS,
YOUR DAUGHTERS, YOUR WIVES, AND
YOUR HOUSES. ( NEHEMIAH 4 : 14 )

GOT FATHER

GENESIS 22: 1 – 24

GOD tested Abraham’s faith and obedience!

But, think about Isaac’s attitude!
He was not just a small kid; a young man who had the
strength to take up a three days journey and to carry
the wood for burnt offering on his shoulders!

How was it possible for him to obey his father like that?
How come he didn’t murmur to carry the wood to the
place of sacrifice, even when the servants were available?
And above all, how could have Abraham tied and placed
Isaac, a young man with so much strength, on the altar?
Whether Isaac tried or cried to escape from that position?
Was it possible for Abraham to do all the required things
without Isaac’s active cooperation and perfect submission?

How did Isaac empty himself of his rights and privileges
on the Mount Moriah because of his trust on his father?

Come to another mountain, Calvary!
The Father and The Son!
The Son voluntarily emptied Himself, obediently humbled
Himself even further by dying a criminal’s death on the cross!

On Mount Moriah, upto the last minute, Isaac was not clear
about his father’s plan;
But, JESUS knew the plan of HIS FATHER from ‘the beginning’!

On Mount Moriah, the son was replaced by a lamb on the altar;
But on Calvary, The SON, JESUS became the Lamb on the cross!

On Mount Moriah, the father got his son back because of the lamb;
But on Calvary, The Father opened a new way, through the LAMB,
to us to become HIS children!
Yes, we all GOT FATHER because of the perfection of The LAMB!

If Isaac wished to thank the lamb for its substitutionary death,
it was not possible because that lamb was no more;
JESUS, The LAMB of GOD, was not just allowed to die on
Calvary, but GOD raised Him up to the heights of heaven and
gave Him a name that is above every other name!
But we rarely thank HIM or The FATHER!

Yes, we, those who believed on the all sufficient death and
resurrection of The LAMB, GOT FATHER; but the question
is whether our life is a life of gratitude?

Perfect SON, Perfect submission, Perfect sacrifice, Perfect
atonement, Perfect substitution and Perfect resurrection to
make the imperfect, like me, also perfect by His Grace!

CHRIST DIED ONLY ONCE AS A SACRIFICE
TO TAKE AWAY THE SINS OF MANY PEOPLE.
HE WILL COME AGAIN BUT NOT TO DEAL
WITH OUR SINS AGAIN. BUT THIS TIME HE
WILL BRING SALVATION TO ALL THOSE WHO
ARE EAGERLY WAITING FOR HIM (HEBREWS 9 : 28)

CROSS – DRESS

MATTHEW 27 : 35.

Jesus on the cross; wounded and bleeding;
nailed and naked; trembling and dying;

But, at the foot of the cross, the soldiers gambled!
For what?; For the dress of JESUS!

How cruel! Insensitivity at its worst!
How was it possible?
When the body of Jesus was wounded and bleeding,
gambling for HIS dress?
When the body of Jesus was nailed and naked,
gambling for HIS dress?
They did not know what they were doing!

But, what about us?
When the body of CHRIST, the Church was wounded
and bleeding, nailed and naked, trembling and crying,
What we are doing at the foot of the cross?

One more Holy week; One more Good Friday;
One more Easter; One more visit to the church;
One more season of melancholic singing and sinking;
One more season of proxy fasting and pious feasting;
May be some times humbly uttering the seven words,
blood and cross, Lamb and the sacrifice and salvation;

But, how many of us actually think about ‘HIS BODY’?
How many of us are at least having some information
about the persecuted church and the wounded church?
We live, preach, worship and celebrate in a shell and
we spend our time, talent and treasure only selfishly?

Do you know some of the simple statistical facts?
Do you know the budget to decorate your church for
the Holy week is more than the annual budget of some
of the suffering churches?
Do you know the money you spend for your jolly trip to
the Holy land is more than sufficient to translate the
Holy Bible in to another language?
Do you know the dress you buy just for this Easter
costs more than a missionary’s annual salary?
Do you know the money you allocated for the Easter
party is more than the poor pastor children’s next
year academic need?
Do you know the money you waste to alter your house
again and again unnecessarily just to boost your image
can supply ten new churches in a much needed place?

Dear friend, I know, we all are experts in justifying our
way of life and life style.
But, before justifying your stand, come little closer to
the cross and have a purposeful look at HIS body!
Trying to honor the Head but ignoring the body?

In what way we are different from the soldiers at
the cross gambling for the clothes?
At least they did not know what they were doing!

How can we have a resurrected life even before entering
the crucified life?
Do you know, only one soldier got HIS dress after the
gambling near the cross;
But, we all got the GARMENT of SALVATION because
of the grace LAMB on the cross!

Remember this and thank HIM!
Have a crucified resurrected life!

THOSE WHO BELONG TO CHRIST JESUS HAVE
NAILED THE PASSIONS AND DESIRES OF THEIR
SINFUL NATURE TO HIS CROSS AND CRUCIFIED
THEM THERE. ( GALATIANS 5 : 24 )

HIDDEN HINTS

LUKE 15 : 11 – 32

A well known parable; Father and the lost son!
We know it, accepted it; enjoyed it; we all were like the lost son;
When we come to the second part of the parable, we usually hate the attitude of the elder son; His actions and attitude are so natural, so common in an ordinary family of this world.

But, in the DIVINE family?.
Compare the parable and the reality.

1. PARABLE: The younger son took the initiative to come back.
( verse 18).
REALITY:THE FATHER took the initiative to bring us all back.

2. PARABLE: The older son was in the field, when the reunion of father and the lost son happened. (verse 25).
REALITY: The only SON was on the cross, when we all got the right to call GOD as our FATHER!.

3. PARABLE: As the father received the younger son safe and sound, he killed the fatted calf.( verse 27).
REALITY: To receive us safe and sound, THE FATHER allowed the killing of THE UNBLEMISHED LAMB!

4. PARABLE: The older son felt unhappy to share the inheritance with his brother.(verse 30)
REALITY:THE SON, by HIS sacrificial death, made us all co-heirs with HIM! Not ashamed to call us HIS brothers!

5. PARABLE: The older son was not able to accept his brother coming near to his father.(verse 28).
REALITY: THE SON opened a new way, by HIS flesh, for all of us to come boldly to THE FATHER’s presence.

6. PARABLE: The older son was not willing to sacrifice even a calf (verse 30)
REALITY:THE SON poured out even HIS soul unto death voluntarily.

7. PARABLE: The older son was not interested to share his father’s house with his brother.(verse 28)
REALITY: THE SON, after HIS death and resurrection, started preparing a place for the adopted sons, us, in HIS FATHER’s mansion.

8. The older son argued with his father by explaining his brother’s failures in detail.( verse 30).
REALITY:THE SON is interceding for us, even now, by covering our transgressions by HIS blood.

Do you really know the meaning of The Cross and The Grace?

…..HOW SHALL WE ESCAPE IF WE NEGLECT
SO GREAT SALVATION?( HEBREWS 2 : 3 ).

Note: I didn’t give the Bible references for all the above REALITY points; Can you please spend little extra time in Scriptures to find the suitable references?
